Should We Judge A Book By It’s Cover?

Posted on: April 10, 2013

There has been infinite controversy whether the candy bar should be judged by it’s wrapper or the movie by it’s trailer. Quite frankly there has been some books that have really gotten my anticipation juices flowing only to realize the content was garbage! So the fundamental question here is “Should we judge a book by it’s cover?”

Here is the logic! If you are a 5 star chef who has taken the time to prepare a 5 star meal, would you present your delicacies in a garbage bag? I don’t think so! So if you’re the real deal, why would you attend an interview with hair wrapped up like you were going for a reggae concert in Kingston? Unless the interview is about a reggae concert in Kingston! Sometimes it may be done deliberately to entice the element of surprise but you really run the risk of loosing the interest of your target! If you are impeccable to the core,(and you should) then your presentation should be stellar! I read once about an investor that was getting ready to part with 10 million dollars to a startup company and one simple thing about the solicitor turned him off! The guy had long nails filled with dirt. Now this may sound like a very minute thing to consider if your about to do a 10 million dollar deal but my gut instincts tell me that if i don’t know anything about the numbers, the personality or even the individual, the next thing is to access what is visible to the eye as a datum point and run with it as the base of your judgement! You may think that people don’t notice those minute details but they do! If you can’t take the time to clip your finger nails, how can one trust you with 10 million dollars? After all, when a lot is at stake, don’t give the other party a reason to disqualify you especially on something as trivial as dirty fingernails! How will you explain this to your kids? Daddy lost a 10 million dollar investment due to dirty nails, now go and clean your room! Don’t give them the pleasure!

Dress sharp, maintain personal hygiene and pay attention to the details.
