Conscious Consumerism

Posted on: September 16, 2012

It is a fancy word for “cause” purchases. It is the way to shop. Quite frankly, when we buy from companies that support our communities, that create jobs, that invest in the future of our kids then we are effecting change. Don’t complain when the unemployment numbers are off the charts or your local chamber of commerce is bankrupt when you were shopping and buying everything that went against the very principles you believe in. You store your money in the big 5 banks that constantly rob you left right and center, purchase commodities from stores that have unethical and unmoral working conditions and expect a change! Truth be told, the only change you are going to witness is the one you initiated! The goal here is not to alter your shopping habits, but to consciously acknowledge that you can boycott companies that are for profit as their business model and nothing else. Stores like Tom’s shoes, charitable water,Street Kings and many more…all despite making profits give a good amount of their income to help people in their community and not just as a “scheme” to get purchases, but as the moral thing to do! What’s the purpose of enriching a company that won’t do anything for you? Remember product sales or services is not enough! There is something called choice and you and i know that when people buy from a company it’s not because it has the greatest most superior product! What closes the deal is the values that that company stands for! Today we have a collective empathy that resonates with other people’s struggles and we mostly connect through products and services! So in seconds you can compile companies that do good in the neighborhood and start giving them your business!

It is logical, it is moral and it is the only way to give business to companies that care!

Enjoy your weekend now will you!
