Labor Day Message.

Posted on: September 3, 2012

There are roughly 12.8 million people(Bureau Of Statistics July 2012 report) unemployed as we celebrate the labor day holiday. It’s surely isn’t a holiday when basic needs go unmet.

Here is my brief message as i have always been advocating. Truth of the matter is that we are reverting back to the old days of micro-entrepreneurship. The industrial revolution is gone. Today due to technology and people anyone can run a micro industry in their basement and just link up with distributors and even the distributors are becoming obsolete as one can do the distribution himself thanks to the net! So what happens if I am unemployed and seeking a job?

  1. Find a true problem in your field that society is facing.
  2. Build a community by interviewing and talking to people with the same problem.(Learning phase!)
  3. Create a prototype product and try sell it. If it takes more that a week you are perfecting it too much
  4. Get feedback,perfect and iterate.

Yes easier said than done but can you imagine how harder it is to find a job? Putting out over 1000 resumes and still not getting any replies? Going to one million interviews just to be told “we will call you” Reality is the economy is changing and people want one thing or have learned one thing….choice!

The choice to do what we want when we want. The problem is, when someone else controls your income, they control your choices and that’s a very precarious position to be in and all it takes is the realization that the above proposal (1-4) is available to you for a minimal investment of time and hutspa! The outcome may be outstanding or it may not, but at least you have the choice! Man will never take a chance on a choice that he is not aware exists! This labor day all i ask for you to do is to start the 4 step iteration in your field! It sounds complicated but it’s not and once you get the hang of things, you will be up and running in no time. Large companies do this all the time and the secret to success really is having a great number of products brought to the market with a minimal investment of time and money. Once you find a winner, not only will you know it, everything else falls in place. It’s always a numbers game especially when dealing with much uncertainty like human emotion. As much as there are a gazillion amount of books in the market, nothing beats just hitting the market raw and if you need help shoot me an email at lkariuki@hotmail.com or lkariuki@gmail.com.

Take care and enjoy your labor day!
