Dopamine Works On Accomplishments

Posted on: June 20, 2011

Dopamine is that neurotransmitter in the brain that is responsible for rewards, reward anticipation, desire and pleasure. It is also the main reason many people take drugs like cocaine and methamphetamines to avoid the re-uptake of dopamine as it’s concentration is deactivated  by MAO‘s (monoamine oxidase A and B)

Anyway, as you work on small accomplishments, small amounts of dopamine gets released in your brain making you excited. This put’s you in the state of proactivity and even if your actions go un-noticed,your brain has already factored a way to reward you. It then motivates you to look for the next challenge and as you take on the next one, more dopamine is activated to excite your nervous system until eventually you are extremely motivated and have now automated this action in to a daily regimen where you don’t seek reward anymore,as a result of  having habituated the action and made it natural to you.

Contrary to popular belief , ” take on great things first and then do the minute ones last”, what if you are overwhelmed by the great things and usually this is the trend? Besides getting de-motivated you feel helpless and disparity all over you. So it is OK to take on great things, but just remember to break them down to small tasks that you can accomplish within a certain time limit.

Eventually, if you have a specific strategy you use to accomplish work please, stick to it. If you don’t have one, i suggest you try this one first and if it doesn’t work for you find one that does. Remember, working individually is difficult, working through a system using a strategy is like lifting a heavy load using a lever. It simplifies work.

Enjoy Your Monday.
